What is Stormwater LID? Storm Water LID features (ex. rain gardens and bioswales) are essential landscape features designed to reduce the amount of pollutants, such as oil, grease, fertilizers, pesticides, pet waste, and trash that accumulate on nearby areas, enter our storm drains, and are transported directly to our nearby creeks and streams. Numerous storm water facilities, including the LID features on your property, have been installed on public and private property in Windsor and every city in California. By properly maintaining your LID features, you are ensuring that they perform the important function of helping to improve water quality in Windsor’s creeks and the Russian River.Stormwater LID features are a covenant to your Property Title, which means they must be maintained in perpetuity and cannot be altered, destroyed, or covered with anything that changes their intended design or function. Doing so may cause flooding and damage to your property, and may be subject to code enforcement fines issued by the Town of Windsor. For questions or help locating your LID features, please contact the Town of Windsor Stormwater Program staff at stormwater@townofwindsor.ca.gov.
If this feature is not vegetated by design, skip ahead to the question about weeds.

For example, are there more weeds than landscape plants, or are weeds blocking the flow of runoff into the feature?
Note: You can test the overflow drains for blockage by pouring clean water into the overflow grate and asking a friend to stand at the front curb of your property to see if the water makes it to the curb. If it does not, you need to remove the blockage.
Note: Erosion issues can be remedied by adding mulch and/or cobblestones to high flow areas. Sediment accumulation can cause the feature to clog, so if you have a sediment issue, it's best to remove at least the top inch of soil and replace the mulch/ground cover to restore a functional infiltration rate.
Note: According to the maintenance covenant that runs with your property, your stormwater LID features must not be moved, removed or modified so that they no longer functions as originally designed.
If no, skip ahead to the "Planned Repairs" section.
