Changed traffic conditions are now in place on Brooks Road South, south of Natalie Drive. Motorists had been using the double yellow painted island to queue for turns onto Natalie Drive, creating unsafe driving conditions. Over the past several months, the Windsor Police Department has issued multiple warnings; however, the behavior has continued. To address the ongoing moving violations and improve safety, the Town has installed permanent delineators along the center island.

Fireworks – Leave it to the Professionals 🧑🚒
Sonoma County Fire District
As we approach the Fourth of July holiday, the Sonoma County Fire District would like to remind residents that all fireworks — including “safe and sane” fireworks — are illegal throughout Sonoma County, including within the Town of Windsor.
While fireworks are often associated with celebration and tradition, they pose a significant risk to our community, especially during the dry summer months when vegetation is highly susceptible to ignition. Even small fireworks such as sparklers, fountains, and firecrackers can quickly start grass fires, damage property, and cause serious injuries. California, including this beautiful county we live in, has experienced devastating wildfires that have threatened and taken lives, homes, and critical infrastructure, making fire prevention more important than ever.
Illegal fireworks also place an unnecessary burden on local emergency responders. Firefighters, law enforcement personnel, and dispatch centers experience a dramatic increase in calls during holiday periods due to fireworks-related fires, injuries, and complaints. By choosing not to use fireworks, residents help keep emergency resources available for true emergencies.
The Sonoma County Fire District encourages residents and visitors to celebrate responsibly by attending professional pyrotechnic displays conducted by licensed experts such as Kaboom held here in Windsor on July 3rd. These events are carefully planned with safety measures in place to protect both spectators and the surrounding community while still providing a memorable holiday experience.
This Independence Day, help protect Windsor and Sonoma County by leaving fireworks to the professionals. Together, we can celebrate safely while reducing the risk of wildfire and keeping our community safe.
Beyond the Badge: Windsor Police Department
Whether they’re responding to emergencies, teaching safety education in our schools, or connecting with residents at community events, the Windsor Police Department (WPD) plays a key role in maintaining the strong sense of community and small-town spirit that defines Windsor.
Click the dropdown below to learn more about WPD in this month's Spotlight.
WPD provides dedicated law enforcement services to the Town of Windsor through a negotiated contract with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. The department is staffed by Sheriff’s Office employees who proudly serve the Windsor community every day.
The WPD team, led by Chief Greg Piccinini (pictured right), is comprised of two sergeants, one administrative aide, one administrative support staff member, one Community Services Officer, one School Resource Officer, two Traffic Deputies, and 12 Patrol Deputies. Together, the department provides a wide range of services, including:
- Patrol duties
- Traffic enforcement
- School Resource Officer services
- Security for special events
- Investigations
A Legacy of Service in Windsor
For both Community Services Officer Amanda Esposti and Chief Piccinini, serving Windsor is deeply personal.
“Windsor's not just a town to me, it’s part of who I am,” shared Esposti. “My grandfather helped establish this town, was the first honorary citizen, has a park dedicated to him, and the town logo is the tree from Esposti Park. What makes Windsor special to me is feeling like I’m continuing in my grandfather’s footsteps with a career focused in public service.”
Esposti grew up exploring Windsor after her grandparents moved to the Brooks Creek neighborhood in 2003, and even worked her first job on the Town Green.
“What I love about Windsor is my family history, its character, and its strong sense of community,” she said.
Chief Piccinini also shares a longstanding connection to Windsor. His father served as the very first Chief of the Windsor Police Department when it was established in 1992 (pictured right).
“As Chief of Police, what I love most about Windsor is the sense of connection and pride the residents have in their town,” said Chief Piccinini. “Windsor is a community where people look out for one another, families are actively engaged, and local partnerships help create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. I am especially grateful for our community's support for the Windsor Police Department, as trust and partnerships are essential to maintaining a safe, vibrant, and welcoming community.”
Looking Ahead: The Epic Back-2-School Event
This September, the Windsor Police Department will host “The Epic Back-2-School Event,” a community-focused event featuring live-action sports entertainment, safety education, and local vendors. The event will include performances and demonstrations from professional athletes, including Beaver Fleming, professional skateboarders, bicyclists, scooter riders, and more. Attendees can also learn important e-bike, bicycle, and scooter safety tips while connecting with local businesses and community organizations. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Windsor High School Every 15 Minutes program, which helps educate students about the dangers of impaired and distracted driving.
The Windsor Police Department remains committed to strengthening community partnerships while creating a safe and vibrant environment for all who live, work, and visit Windsor.
How to Contact WPD
The police station is located at 9291 Old Redwood Highway, Building 300B. For emergencies, residents should dial 911. To file a police report or contact dispatch, call (707) 565-2121.
