Food Donation & Recovery

Food Donation RecoveryIt is estimated that 11.2 billion pounds of food is landfilled each year. In 2018, it was reported that 4.3 million Californians did not have enough to eat.

To offset the greenhouse gas emissions from throwing away large amounts of edible food, the State of California has enacted SB 1383, requiring businesses and commercial entities to donate edible food to help feed the hungry. Residents can participate as well if they have an abundance of fresh produce from a garden or fruit tree.
